Our Favorite Places
|
South Africa National Parks and the many provincial Nature Reserves offer an almost endless variety of places to go to see both birds and animals. There are many places which we have visited and thoroughly enjoyed, Lower Sabie Camp being one of them.
Lower Sabie camp is typical of many places but, because of its situation on the banks of the Sabie River at the southern end of the park, has a variety of interesting habitats available within a short distance of the camp. The camp offers comfortable serviced chalets as well as camping.
The Sabie River with its open sand banks, riverine forest and water side vegetation offers the visitor an opportunity to see big game close to the road and many large raptors sitting on the tops of the big riverine trees. Sunset Pan is a good place to see a variety of birds, depending on water levels and time of the year. There are also a number of large crocs in this pan which haul out to sunbathe. The rocky kopjes are home to the incredible little antelope, the Klipspringer, which has specially adapted hooves to enable it to spring from rock to rock safely.
