MALALANGWE, Matobos
| Malalangwe and the Stone Hills Game Sanctuary surrounding it lie in the north-western Matobo Hills in Zimbabwe's Matabeleland, an area remarkable for its "Kopjes" - rolling hills of ancient granite sculpted naturally into fantastic configurations by the forces of wind and weather. The Matobo National Park is one of the last strongholds of both Black and White Rhino and the region is renowned for its high concentration of the elusive leopard, the Black eagle and the Stone age rock art of the San Bushmen. |

The Lodge - owned and run by Richard and Bookey Peek "... gets a luxury classification" (Julie Davidson, "The Observer" ). The lodge offers guided drives or walks within the sanctuary. The sanctuary is haven to a plentiful variety of game (44 species of larger mammals) and bird life (in excess of 200 species), much of which can be seen around the lodge. Cecil John Rhodes' "View of the World" (the ancient "Place of Spirits" for local people), the Indaba sites and historical battle grounds are all within easy reach of Malalangwe. Richard is an expert bird and natural history photographer and will help visiting photographers to make the most of their visit. |
