This luxurious lodge, built on a series of rocky outcrops, was the first of the Save Conservancy Lodges. Clive Stockil with his incredible knowledge of the fauna and flora of the Lowveld area has to be a major draw card for this lodge. A drive/walk with him in any part of the conservancy is always a highlight of any visit we make to Senuko. In the winter months the African Painted Dogs usually den down for the birth of a litter of pups in the Senuko area guaranteeing great views of this endangered species. The area boasts 438 species of birds identified, many of them most easily seen in this part of the conservancy. Just below the lodge in a patch of tall Mopane we have often found the Racquet-tailed Roller – one of the most sought after species of this area. In the camp area the Barn Owls nest next to one lodge, the Barred Owlets roost above the dining room and in the evening the African Scops & Pearl-spotted Owlets can be heard calling all around the camp. Even the Giant Eagle Owl, arguably the world's largest owl, is a frequent visitor. |
