Peter Ginn Birding Safaris
General Tours

Having relocated to George on the beautiful Garden Route in the Southern Cape, we are busy exploring the incredible options in places along the Garden Route and inland into the Little Karoo. We plan to explore further afield in due course. The Southern Cape area is particularly noted for its wide variety of plant species, many of them endemic, from the Fynbos along the coast to the succulents in the Karoo. The area is part of the Cape Floral Kingdom which is the smallest floral kingdom in the world. Despite it's small size it has an amazing number of endemic plant species. This area is also home to a large number of birds endemic to southern Africa generally and the Karoo & Western Cape specificaly.

Please note that because of the political situation in Zimbabwe it is very difficult to run group tours there. We would be delighted to help birders to plan personal trips to the best birding places available at the time of setting up a tour.

Although we will continue to offer tailor-make group tours throughout Southern Africa, we will also be able to plan and, where required, guide more local tours in the southern Cape area. There are pplans to create a Southern Cape Birding Route stretching from the Breede River in the West to Cape St Francis in the East and from the coast to at least as far inland as the Swartberg Mountains, but probably including the southern parts of the Great Karoo as far north as Beaufort West. This will tie into the other birding routes which have been and are being developed all over South Africa under the aegis of Birdlife South Africa.

The George Museum has made facilities available to us for the development of Bird Identification courses for both locals and visitors. They have proved popular with local birders and aspiringbirders.

Peter is a THETA registered Level 4 NATURE GUIDE for ALL South African provinces.
