Barberton Lodge

PGBS

Hugging a granite landscape, Barberton Lodge overlooks the beautiful scenery of the Bubiana Conservancy. Primarily a Black Rhino sanctuary that spreads over 160,000 ha in Southern Zimbabwe. Four stone-under-thatch en suite chalets have their own individual views. A natural cleft between boulders forms the entrance to the lounge and the "cave bar". A winding staircase passes the dining room in the attic of the roof and continues upwards to the gazebo and its "cuddle puddle", the apex of the complex

.

From this lofty pedestal the panorama embraces stunning sunrises, brilliant sunsets, and game pans below. For the romantic, an outside double bath is secretly secluded at the honeymoon suite where champagne and stargazing can be enjoyed with a difference. The sparkling rock swimming pool, terraced lawns, and indigenous tree gardens complete a blend of relaxation and beauty. Barberton boasts a feast of flora and fauna having the widest diversity of trees in the country and 395 species of birds. Founder populations of black rhino, elephant, buffalo, and hippo have been re-introduced, adding to the 14 varities of plains game, leopard, cheetah, and hyena already there. The setting is steeped in history with rock art, grain bins, and the remnants of stone forifications from a bygone era. Available to guests are game drives, horse trails, hiking in the hills, fishing and twilight cruises on the 4km stretch of river water. Excursions to the Sandawana emerald mine and the local communal lands can be arranged.

The Bubiana Conservancy has the highest concentration of Black rhino in Zimbabwe.
