Peter trained as a geologist, but soon discovered that his real vocation was showing others the wonders of the world in which we live. He has done this for over 38 years through teaching. Firstly geography (the study of man in his environment) to scholars, also planning natural history trips for adults and children. He created of a series of books on birds from beginners (Birds Afield) to keen bird-watchers (Waterbirds etc) and finally a book for experts and all bird watchers in southern Africa, (The Complete Book of Southern African Birds) He retired as a teacher in 1989 and turned his talents to planning and executing tours for visitors to Botswana, Namibia, Madagascar, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. These tours are planned using his broad knowledge of Southern Africa to create something special for each group. Where a specialist bird guide is needed for a group, Peter will accompany your group to impart his extensive knowledge of the natural history of most of the 900+ bird species found in Southern Africa. He will also make your tour something more -- the "African experience" -- which covers every aspect of the natural history of our beautiful area. Peter is a Theta registered nature guide for all the South African provinces. PGBS tours are planned so as to make use of the knowledge of the professional guides found at each lodge. These guides all have a broad general knowledge, plus specialist local knowledge to make your tour much more than a "game viewing" trip. Peter is a specialist bird photographer, but also has extensive experience in general game and natural history photograhy. He has been elected as an Associate of both the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britian and the Photographic Society of Southern Africa. This is in recognition of the excellence of his photography. He can therefore help clients to maximise their photographic opportunities on tour.
